down to i think three of them in stock right now so i recently had an order for a couple more so its its time to replenish the stock and build a few more of these i think last time i did this was quite recently on on the stream but it was with the with the how do you say that the kit and this time its going to be assembled coilovers no i last when i was working on the kits i think i spread them out over several weeks and i'd really like to avoid doing that because it leads to inaccuracies in keeping track of what parts i've used and when and that sort of thing its really high hard to make sure that everything gets properly recorded here so i'm going to be sticking i'm going to probably not complete this project on the stream i'm gonna do some other work here today and then i hope that within the next few days i will have it have it done and not streamed and then i can do something else next week now last week you saw me working on the new website that is going quite well i've been making pretty good progress every day that i've worked on it so i'm hoping that within this coming week i will be able to switch over the domain name and we can all look at the new new web zine which is really my best best web design yet for the storefront i mean its i had the shopify storefront back in two thousand and eighteen and i got it to look pretty good and then i had to leave shopify in a rush because they screwed up browser compatibility and the storefront that i i had on bigcommerce was kind of a compromise and i'm hoping that the new one even though i've had to design it also in a rush the new one actually looks a whole lot better and i'm hoping i'm going to be able to stick with that design for a while even if i end up moving further in the new year yeah i have a friend who's hoping to start up a business of hosting e-commerce sites and it may be that i'm going there but if i do i'll be doing it on in less of a rush and i hope with better and better web design so let's get started here i've got maya six pins already for putting parts in and i'm going to start with board number two which is the one further to the back of the of the module so first thing i'm going to need on here is some film capacitors sixty eight hundred puff hello to have these two let me see what the twitch counter says it still says i have zero viewers so i don't know if its just not counting have this to properly or have this too is a bot i would really like to be able to get more room more more viewers on the channel but that is ultimately something that i don't get to decide one of the things that was really an issue for me towards the end of my academic career was that i was in a situation of nearly everything that was important to me depended on the voluntary actions of persons other than myself and unfortunately that's probably part of the human condition it may not be something that i can really really eliminate but i would like to reduce it as much as possible and that's one reason i work for myself now instead of being an employee somewhere ah and unfortunately getting viewers on my twitch channel is another of those things where i can i can do my broadcast each week its somewhat under control of somewhat under my control or whether i actually do the work make a good blog broadcast and to show up every week but its not under my control whether people to me and that's unfortunate it means that twitch broadcasting is for that reason not the ultimate in what i would really like my life to be all about but there are two six year one hundred puff capacitors in each bin and next its time for the the ceramic decoupling caps and this is my opportunity to use up some of some of these baldwins huh yeah its been a little while since i've used this this particular streaming setup with the laptop because i've been doing other kinds of streams recently i am guessing that we probably won't be seeing mr baker this week anyway because he went to halifax to get a guitar i think it was halifax and somewhere in atlantic canada anyway and i don't quite understand how this works but apparently part of getting a guitarist you have to you have to drink a on the schooner he was saying on twitter that the bartender said they'd never sold that much schooner in in one night before i have not done that but i do recall that on the last st patrick's day before the world changed i went out with some of my friends to the hong kong noodle house and drink all of the beer that they had and then an irish priest of my acquaintance picked up the tab for the entire table so i not only drank a whole lot of chinese beer but didn't even have to pay for it fun times see if i can get these windows arranged the way i would like them we seem to have one viewer now that's great and it'll just take me a second to get this adjusted there we go yeah alright for for axial ceramics in next week's electrolytic the qoyllur is actually a pretty simple circuit there's not a lot of complexity in it although it does have one or two little little wrinkles as is fairly often the case i found myself with extra extra amplifiers in in the chips i was using like a tale of seventy four b op amp chip in there that has four units so if as turned out to be the case the basic corridor design needed seven of them all then if i use two chips i've got one one unit left over and then i went looking for i mean it is possible to just deactivate an unused unit but i hate to do that if i'm going through the trouble of including a whole chip i want to use every one of the units in it so i ended up finding a circuit online that i thought looked interesting which was the full wave rectifier with only one diode in it i mean a full wave rectifiers switches the direction of a current so when not when the voltage is positive that puts out the the just passes the voltage through and when its negative it inverts so you always get positive on the output and usually the natural ways to do that would involve at least two and sometimes four diodes so now a diet costs like two cents so you saving one is not necessarily really all that important or valuable but i thought it was really cool that someone had come up with a clever op amp circuits that would allow full wave rectification with only one died so that's in weiler and it also uses the otherwise unused op amp unit now in at least some places like on the label of the do it yourself kit i call this module a filter and rectifier i haven't gotten a lot of feedback from users that they really use the rectifier section i'm not sure all of them even really understand that that's what it is i think some just sort of think hello casey banner life i think some just sort of think that the filter has two inputs and i don't know what they think of the fact that the sound so it sounds quite distorted if you if you use the one that's labeled with the diet symbol and its rectifier input but you can't always really predict or certainly can't control how people are going to perceive or use a circuit design its time here for the foils he's twenty two mil or millie henry inductors they give the coilover its its name don't know if you saw that but my luck white here just seem to change its the intensity then i've had a few power bumps recently this morning there was a a power outage for at least about ten minutes i actually was just getting ready to go out to one mail a package when when the power went out so as i was going out through the neighborhood i kind of looked around and saw that right where i lived the other houses seem to have their power out and the stop light at one nearby corner was flashing red so it wasn't in its normal state but it was still getting power from somewhere i don't know if they may be battery backed up but by the time i got to the post office at least the lights were on and the post office i don't know if they didn't go out anyway or or what but power outage was probably quite localized and it clearly only lasted maybe fifteen minutes at most but there have been several like that in the recent past kind of worries me i mean i guess our power problems here in toronto are nothing like as bad as they've been let's say california or texas but it would be better that that not happen male headers putting a big part through to this morning ah and it was noticeable that you know there are supply issues for some parts there are things that i would expect to always be in stock that were like well you want one hundred but there are only twenty in stock so will backward or the rest that kind of thing i don't think its really going to be a big problem for for my production but it certainly looked iffy for some of the well exactly the microcontroller chips for the upcoming gracious host module i have those now so not too worried about them in particular i yeah but it does mean for instance that like there were items where i ended up having to buy from other more expensive distributor because the less expensive distributor was out viewers have probably heard me talk about the large versus the small resistors and i prefer to use the large ones in kids because they're easier to handle and easier to read the little color codes so today when i'm not making a kit is my chance to use up some of these smaller ones think these five ten home resisters though small resistance value there if i remember correctly they're used in this in this design at the inputs to the to the ot ot a chips because the ot a is a basically a voltage controlled amplifier although really its current controlled and it always has a fair bit of gain so in my case in this in this filter you actually want the output of the amplifier to be at roughly the same level as the input so what happens is the input goes through a voltage divider that knocks it down significantly to be just the low low level that can go into the gym into the ot a input so the divider has like a i guess its probably one hundred cave maybe not and you know why larger resistor on top and one of these small ones on the bottom these ones are small in terms of size but i also mean small in value and that's the years it down to to the level that the oh to your needs and this came up recently because someone emailed me saying that he had mis patched his qoyllur heed to accidentally plugged the output into the output of some other module and since then he thought that maybe his qoyllur was had a higher noise floor so he wondered if he damaged it its actually been a little while since i designed this so i had to go back and look at the scheme headache and see if i could figure out was that at all plausible and i told them probably not the thing is the the outputs go through teal o seven four chips that are pants that basically serve as buffers and so in order to damage it you buy miss patching you would probably have to damage one of those chips and they're very rugged i mean it says in the year in the data sheet that it will withstand a indefinite duration short circuit on the output its never wise to really push it to to do that in practice but i have actually seen it happen where i i think i was building a a leapfrog at the time time and there was a solder bridge on the board that had the effect of shorting an op amp output directly to ground and the op amp i mean it was like a minute or so between when i powered this up and when i discovered that it wasn't working the op amp chip in question certainly warmed up but it wasn't fried that leapfrog was was fine after i corrected the soldering year and so i don't really expect there's now that wasn't a qoyllur but it is the same chip that would be in the qoyllur i don't really expect corridors output rpm to be damaged by especially because it was it couldn't have been directly short there is a protective resistor between the the op amp chip and the outside world and honestly that that resistor is there mostly to prevent the qoyllur from damaging other things you know the saying about an unbreakable toy that can be used to break other choice i don't want someone to fry their whiz bang expensive module that they got from somewhere else by plugging it into a qoyllur and then blame me because i designed the qoyllur so in order you wouldn't even be able to put as much load onto the coil or softbank's as you could with a short because there is no direct short it would have to go through that resistor and so even in the worst possible case imaginable of output to output shorting its hard to believe that you would be pushing the op amp anywhere outside its specifications and it should work just fine people don't always really understand that electronics to a large extent doesn't really wear out with us i mean there are certainly exceptions mccain anything that's of a mechanical nature sure if you're twisting the knob back and forth too much you know you've play with with too much into it'll be injured but just running running a amplifier within its stated range and if its not overheating or anything you can do that day in and day out and you may actually be better than not then turning it on an awful lot because you won't be thermally cycling it so what i told the fellow came down to well i think most likely you're just our list hearing something you already that was already there and maybe you're noticing it more now because you're concerned and paying closer attention and he was happy with that description i and i also told them and this gets back to what i was saying about voltage dividers that the coilover is never going to be a really quiet filter because of the way this gain staging works the ita chips have a fair bit of gain so in order to get the output from them at a reasonable level you have to knock down the input to quite a low level and that puts its not necessarily all that much above whatever is the existing noise floor and if you want a really really quiet filter then you probably should be using some other other filter design it would be interesting i don't have really at the moment a product that i will describe as really quiet that's not really with the direction that my musical interests go but it might be might be fun to think about you know if i wanted to design a really quiet filter how would i do it i probably won't design another filter at all in the near future because i've got two out of seven modules in my line are filters now and how many filters do people need but i might want to think in that direction in terms of a v ca because i do kind of need to have a v c a and my line and i don't at the moment k now its trimmer time i really ought to get some sort of frequent flyer bonus with the trimmer manufacturers cause i just go through so many of these you know like i'd like to have some kind of a little punch card to order a thousand trimmers get one free unfortunately that's about what it would be okay i think now is going to be the time when i use one of these this last gray one cause i need two in each bin and i've got blue ones and grey ones and i only have one leftover grey one they're equally good and they don't need to be matched but i still kind of wanted to ship nacht ones in kits and i do normally use these two at a time so i've been saving that one extra one for an occasion like now when i'm building a tyler or something myself that's part of the thing of having a unique handmade product right somebody's going to get the special quality that has a grey and a blue one and then they can have a rare collectible one i guess k to twenty k those are two twenty games don't have any other snow i usually try to use up whichever bag has the fewest in it or draw from the bag because fewest in it because that's staple like if i take if i take resistors i have a bag that has fewer students than after doing that it'll have even fewer so so i'll also be taking from that bag in the future until it gets used up and this will normally mean that i'm following something like first in first out which is how i value my inventory and makes a lot of sense right i mean these these components don't really go bad but it does make sense to use the oldest ones first although when there are some variations like like that business with the grey ones and the white ones not grey and white grey and blue then then i may vary though the policy okay that's all the resistors i will need a couple of dip sockets and a circuit board so a dip sockets i was going through those i actually decided not to buy more in my current current order that i put in this morning because i was buying so many other things i don't absolutely need more of these yet what do you guys mean that i will need to have another order in the near future and i don't know how necessary it really is i mean the sockets are expensive and they're not electrically necessary but at the same time i know that do diy builders like to be able to swap chips and that does make debugging easier if you soldering a chip and you do it backwards then ah it'll be destroyed and you have an annoying deciding problem in order to replace it whereas if there is a socket then okay you've still destroyed the chip that you can pull it out and put in a new one without probably needing to resort or anything else the one place it would really be nice to use a socket is actually in the gracious hosts because there's a microcontroller chip i sorry yeah ok have to deal with that hang on here see which one is this b or time out banned there we go hello to be more i guess its a good sign if i'm becoming big enough to attract bots i haven't seen one of those in awhile but i would prefer to have have human viewers rather than spambots yeah so with the gracious host if you screw up the programming of the chip tom then if you don't have the equipment for in-circuit programming you would kind of like to be able to pull that chip and put in another one otherwise you may have bricked your build the trouble is that chip has a much higher frequency on it than audio i clock signal was four four megahertz but the usb bus itself operates as high as twelve megabits per second so in there then there's also stuff like the chip needing really heavy decoupling those little axial lead to passengers i normally use are not enough for it needs a bunch of special special treatment so its kind its kind of preferable not to have a have a socket because the sockets are really in pairs the ability of the decoupling capacitors doesn't stop someone to do their job so between that and the fact that there are a lot of expensive parts in the gracious host and i'm trying to keep it at a price point people will be happy with i opted to not put sockets on the digital chips there will still be sockets for the analog ones but i think that to complicating the my picture and maybe making the decoupling not work as well as it should and so on its not worth it in the case of the microcontroller chip in particular so why so that's my call right its i call is that you're going to have to solder the or i'm strongly recommend that you side with microcontroller chip right in and i'll just say in the build manual hey make sure that you know what you're doing before you do this and make sure that you put it in right way round okay so that's all the parts for the board too and now i can work an important one pretty fast i went really fast in fact for only thirty seven minutes in i may even be able to get to do some board stuffing here in the stream hello meta views i don't know if that means you are if you have views on the artist formerly known as facebook or if that's just to incorrect assumption okay so thirty three puff capacitors and if i remember correctly least they're not actually in this bin yeah i see twenty twos and several other sizes but no thirty three so they're probably on lisa schools here let's see yeah here we are thirty three and i have one pre-cut here from previous episode and i need five more i'm not being as careful about labeling these right now because i know that i'm the one who's going to be handling them and i know what a what a thirty three and and what a one hundred look like speaking of one hundred those are probably also on a spool let's see yeah i try to avoid actually behind these unspools because they're kind of annoying to deal with the real as they call it is not really a spool is what they are its what you want if you've got one of these robots assembly machines because the robot will have a whole raft of like twenty or fifty holders for for these reels and you throw them all in when you're setting up to do a production run and it just zooms through assembling all alpha all of the parts from the appropriate reels and they did you know for throughout the frugal era that robots were capable of doing through hole through hole assembly all this wonderful technology of wave soldering and automatic clinching and cutting of leads and so on that is largely seen as obsolete today because of surface-mount emphasis in a surface mount machine works the same way just because you're a little tape with the pockets in it that contains the surface-mount components instead of fun i'd take this down for the third time in a few minutes and instead of instead of taking the through hole components off the off the tape hi if i could write to not order more of these in my inventory lists said i had like five hundred room how many quantity three hundred and here so yeah that's plausible i mean i guess they take up a lot less space from yours there in the above path like this that's one reason too do you prefer okay now the earlier building a full wave rectifier with just a single switching diode and here we are here single switching targets like i say its kind of a foolish exercise because these diodes cost i think less than two cents each hello def be so i don't know that having a a special full wave rectifier circuit that only work only needs one diode don't know that we're really saving much but it is fun its cool to say to someone who knows on how one of these circuits are constructed hey we've got one that uses only one diode and then they can think very hard how to how that would be possible and i need the four point seven sceneries i have a whole lot of little little bags with just a few zener diodes on them because of the testing i had to do when i was building the fifth sign bank it has zener diodes in the the feedback loops of the amps to try to limit the the output to the right level and i had a heck of a time picking something that would that would get the level i want it so i had to just buy like eight or ten different values and test them all until i got something that worked and at such time as i reorder then i guess i'll have to check the new batch that make sure it still works because i'm really using them a little outside there well significantly outside their rated then their rated power level not in a way that will damage anything its just that these these diodes are typically rated for like well it'll drop this much voltage at ten mil amps and i'm using it at a much lower power level at which level it will drop a higher voltage but how much higher is not necessarily well characterized alright these are four point seven i use a different pendant for for them because this tape that the diodes are on doesn't soak up the ink the way that the the paper tape used on things like resistors does so i've already established if i use my usual black pen which is water based it won't market properly gotta use the solvent-based permanent marker alright nuts standoffs whole bunch of hardware here huh there'll be more knots needed in this project later when i get to the mounting hardware for putting the modules into the rack but those go into a separate little bag so it makes some sense to wait on counting them out okay yeah i have here looks like there's more you know there aren't looks like just enough of these three both are teens thanks to recover used up more of those are already on order and i already have wait a minute these are elevens yeah plenty of eleventh here huh machine screws two of these in each but when these are fresh like this they look kind of blue but they very quickly lose that can they turn slightly duller silver color i'm not sure anyone would notice them except me but something i notice oh boy its time for the famous lumberjacks i you've heard me rant about them before i guess i don't really need to again i need seven for each been six pins that's going to mean forty two i think ten fifteen twenty twenty five thirty thirty five forty forty two i usually buy these five hundred at a time and it seems like i'm still always running out of them because they're in almost all of my products seven its fourteen twenty one twenty eight thirty five and forty two he's my emo more lubricant soon okay so next it'll be the board to board connectors both male and female these are low too but they're also an order right now and actually these were one of the items that there seems to be a supply crunch for especially their female counterparts so i'm expecting to get enough for my immediate needs in the next few days but then there'll be some more backward not quite as long on females as we are in males though so that helps okay so now the discrete transistors and i think at this point we're not want to where did i put my discrete transistors i was expecting them right here i think at this point we're now onto the ss eighty eight fifty d transistors strange they ought to be right here so i probably put them in a safe here we go i must have seen there was a space on the shelf there and i put them on with the other okay so i've got these ones and these ones usual rule i take from a smaller bin or bank because these will be the the initial bench then i got to see whether they were any good and then having determined that they were i bought the larger larger bag just spot checking a few here to make sure they have the right markings they do true true two point two and two and two go alright now we're onto resistors and i probably ought to lubricate those scissors first so i'll just go grab a kleenex back in the second check one two okay this stuff is supposed to evaporate quickly leave behind a film or foil it doesn't actually work as well as i'd hoped so its kind of back to the drawing board in terms of formulation but i want to use up that batch before i tried too hard to make a new one and once that is somewhat dry i'll be wanting to what measure some one k resistors and also some one point eight i think yeah if those around here one can one point change the the those in fact are the output protection resistors i was talking about earlier so in order to damage the chips in one of these coilovers you need to burn up one of these three sisters first and you can't really do that because the the output voltages from your rack modules even if evening as i say the most extreme case are not going to put enough current through there to to really burn it up the the two point seven k is next are these ones are there any others looks like not this is another value for which there's just one in the design it looks like i'm up to three fevers now that's great part of the thing for getting special privileges on twitches you have to be able to maintain average viewership of three and i think i'm probably pretty far away from that because average viewership means not just you get three people tuned in at one point but you get like if there is a period during which you have no viewers then that has to be balanced by perhaps an equal length period during which you have six because its average over however your last however many hours of streaming but i am getting pretty close to to the fifty fifty follower mark which is another important to important threshold i think it may be that when i hit fifty followers i get to define custom emoji or something like that or they call them emotes which i guess is correct because they're not really emoji they're not registered characters with the unicode consortium i dunno what i'm going to define as my emotes i mean maybe i shouldn't count those chickens until they're hatched but its coming up pretty soon hello mr lee news ah you know they probably should be themed i like to follow y'all keep a goat who does cute animal pictures and so yagi has like each of the characters has their own emotes and there's one good one that is like a little fox eating a taco and i don't even know what that signifies in terms of like when is the moment when you would use that but its cute but i don't know if maybe i need to use like as a few schematic symbols like someone once they once i and they reach the level where this is possible someone can type a code and get an op amp appear in the in the chant i guess the thing to do at that point when it gets more imminent is is paul my viewers what kind of emotes do you want might be interesting to know what the answers are i have pulled the wrong been there but i will need this one in a second think i'll leave it there and grandpa next one cause right now i'm looking for the eighteen kick resistors okay one of each of these one of these in each spin hello at ten or a tenant turn off that's an egyptian god i think it might be alright eighteen k not to be confused with the one point dates that are also in this board i do that right think so and next is twenty two huh thirty six is in the same bin nine there there's thirty six all these resistance values inherit between twenty two and forty six are ones that i use a lot like significant numbers of them in popular modules so they're in bigger bags and i don't have very many of the little little ends and remnants because the inventory on these ones circulates relatively quickly when i'm designing a module or building a prototype or something i might buy just like a hundred of these resistors it doesn't really make sense to buy them in a quantity smaller than that but then once i'm actually producing the module bump up the order size and get them typically one thousand at a time the whenever i run out of one hundred case i may actually get an entire box like you saw earlier that came about because i ordered one thousand of them in to the distributor screwed up they shipped me instead of two packs of five hundred they shipped me a pack of five hundred and a pack of five thousand and i felt i was obligated to tell them and i did and they ignored it and given that i had other more significant issues that they had to sort out i dropped that one but i have found that having the big box of one hundred k resistors is kind of nice so i'm thinking whenever i do run out of that big box which won't be too far into the future because i do use a whole lot of those i will actually order them five thousand at a time instead of just one thousand at a time at that level there's not a huge quantity discount but there's always some and its nice not having to restock them i wouldn't want to do that for every resistor value because there are so many different ones but i don't want to have a big ammo pack like that for every single value on my shelf but hundred k in particular is when i use so much that it probably does make sense i mean also there'd be the expensive of all their inventory if its a if its an item that i'm only using like one at a time in an unpopular module then having five thousand of them doesn't make sense but there's like a double handful of those hundred ks in pretty much every year every module i make so special case hungry okay i now i have to go get the panel parts yes them that would take me a second back in a month there's a lot of money tied up in this spin because these parts cost a few dollars each and then there's they're used in many of my products so is there a trade that's already started in this case i need three of them for each for each of my six corners i'm building so that'll be three six nine twelve fifteen eighteen try not to disturb this tray as i did last time i have a spill of them maybe it wasn't last time but it was caught on video in one recent stream anyway this way ab down here maybe the one here ok spring musher lock washer finally the nuts each of these has its own function right the the nut is the thing that holds it in place but not content to loosen over time so the lock washer his teeth in it that dig into the surface of the nodded concert to stay in place especially with regard to vibration but then in order to make the spring washer work you need to controlled reasonable amount of pressure on it so the spring washer does that and also protects the panel from having the nut the the lock washer dig into it i have heard the claim no an old timer i spoke to one the forum formerly known as my winkler that this this thing with the teeth on it is not really a lock washer he wanted to call it a serrated ring i think and claim that the purpose of it was to cut through the finish on the panel and form a grounding connection and i'm sure that there are pieces of panel electronics where that would be true but i don't think its the case on these parks in particular the the anyway if you if you believe the serrated ring theory then pudding media spring washer between the serrated ring and the panel would be a big mistake because it would prevent their teeth from being able to to do their job alright three and three and three and three more threes that's those and that's those now constituted a very significant fraction of the the value of the parts in each bin because resistors cross very little the the the the the g twenty k go the the the the other resisters now i am not going to actually count out the tips yet the the chips because those will go into their sockets basically in the last step but i am going to count out sockets for them team and that's almost all the parts its interesting that bill of materials usually is like at the table laid out like this with basically exactly the parts that have reference designators on the schematic then in any real build there are going to be other things that don't fall into that category but still need to be included like these circuit boards and the panels i don't have those within grabbing distance i think i do i'm going to need to buy more of these panels very soon i think i have seven being a hair yeah and i'm going to need six for this build so i won't be able to build any more of these until i get the next package from berlin probably won't count out the knobs yet then i might as well count out the these things cable ties i ship two cable ties in each kit that uses them even though there's really only one needed for the build because if you screw up and have to cut one away its nice to have a spare alright that is awful all the parts countered out i've only been streaming an hour and a half i'd like to make a little bit more progress so i guess the next step is going to be to do some of the board stuffing and i'll do that on this board first because this is the point that i normally build first when i'm doing one of these builds i'm guessing i probably won't have time today and the amount of streaming i want to do to actually start soldering these but i'll at least at least to i may or may not have time to do all aboard stuffing we'll see how fast that goes there's not really all that much that needs to be done this is a pretty simple build yeah if you're looking for and like it an easy starter build this is probably a good pick so i'm just going through here and pulling out the components that are going to be need need to be done in a separate step cause i like to build from the bottom up to the the little parts that i cider with the small soldering iron tip first and then the next pass onto probably the dip sockets because i like to use the wider tip for those it goes faster that way and then after that it'll be stuff that sticks up off the board needs to be held in place the the there are all kinds of gadgets you can get to help with bending these leads and honestly i find it easier to just sort of learn how to do it with my fingers and know how bigger distance i want them to be that does mean that they end up sometimes not being built to quite the perfect size but the little bit of practice i am usually able to guesstimate it pretty well and that seems a lot easier than messing around with the little pending jigs i guess if i had one of those that was completely automated if i had some sort of a machine where i could just feed in the spool and turn the crank or whatever and have it spit them all out and i'm sure that does exist although probably not a big thing because usually if you're automating it you'd also be automating the insertion and the soldering so you'd have a robot that does everything not just cutting and bending its often an issue with these coin learn how to adjust them for minimum dc offset and after doing one that seemed to be especially tricky i went and i looked back at the design its to try and figure out if there was some design change i could make that would make it be better and i actually took one of my prototypes and cut some traces and rearrange components on it too see if i could apply the offset knowing at a different point in the circuit and have that be better and the answer was no at the at least moving the the connection to the other place that i thought might be a good idea it did not actually make it better it made it worse and i was a little relieved because that meant that you know my initial design was not so bad after all and i was not going to end up with a situation of trying to redo existing boards or anything like that but i guess i would have preferred to have that inconvenience anyway because it would mean that then i would have future ones that work better now there is my phone i think i better see what happens hang on nobody there at least not within the few seconds that i was willing to wait i've noticed that's when its a telemarketers telemarketer or something very often there's a pause between when i pick up and when i actually hear a voice and i think that a legitimate caller is unlikely to to have that pause so if i don't hear a voice within just a few seconds after i pick up then i'm inclined to hang up there was a period of several weeks where usually daily often more than once a day i would get a phone call from somebody who thought that i had phoned them and as far as i can tell its because telemarketers were forging my phone number on the caller id so somebody gets a missed call that was from a telemarketer into their caller id says it was from my number and apparently there is little or nothing done in the telephone networks to make sure that caller id information is correct so if some foreign telephone company issues an incoming call to the local telephone company they can put whatever they want in there in the caller id information and the local telephone company will not check well that's not actually a phone number that your your your foreign companies responsible for they'll just pass it through and it seems like that's a really bad thing but that's the way it works and of course part of the problem is that then i mean heaven forbid the significant number of these people are actually not calling me because they're picking up on the first go and then they think they gotta a spam call from my number and so on one one fellow was borderline belligerent he said well some one from your number called me know nobody from your number from my number called you i did not call you i'm the only person here well but it was your number on the caller id is lying to you i guess that's you know being someone who works with machines a lot i'm inclined to recognize that mission machines can ah can lie now casey banner in life says what they do is robot i'll you and then only if you pick up the multiplex you want to a real operator yeah i mean they know a lot of people are not going to actually be picking up so they're trying to save time for the real operators because they have to pay for those so they've got the robot that makes the outgoing calls and then if they've got a lot of humans it will put punt you to the first available human so that way a human isn't waiting for you to pick up and yeah and its understandable and also that's when its a telemarketer but also when it was one of these people who who thought i found them i don't know why but people returning that kind of call also often seem to have have a big delay i think maybe because if you miss a call on your cell phone its because like you're driving or something so they i dunno maybe they push the return call button and then pull over too try to actually talk to a person or i guess also you know if somebody calls me i will pick up and say hello now if they think i called them that they're expecting me just starting with whatever is my pitch so if i just say hello then there's this long pause because they're expecting me to speak ah and very often with that kind of call its like a confused senior or something so i don't want to be rude to the person they're as much a victim as i am and i try to explain to them well i didn't call you i'm sorry but you shouldn't return calls from numbers you don't know anyway that seems to have tapered off in the last few days so i'm hoping that the spammers have moved on to greener pastures i don't know why they would choose my number in particular it may simply be random choice choices and it may also be that they randomly choose from among numbers that actually exist i was not pleased that rogers cable who manage my telephone connection didn't really seem to think that there was anything they could do although that probably is true that there's nothing they can do because you know its a some third party is lying to some fourth party and neither i nor rogers can do anything about that until well until the person tries to return the call rogers told me i should report it to the fraud center but i went to the fraud center reporting form online and there's not really much you can do with that form when i know neither the name of a corporate nor the victim all i can say as well some third party is lying to some fourth party about me one of the more talkative callers i i told him will you know you should complain about this because there's more that you can tell them then than i can the i mean really we were hosed as soon as we allowed businesses to use the telephone at all but its probably too late to do anything about that the trainees around i have all the color codes read in a consistent direction from top to bottom on the board the the the the the yeah it looks to me like if i finish this round board stuffing forth the six modules that will be about the right amount of str gaming for one day the and there we go that's two out of four the the the so i mentioned the power failure this morning but also around midday one of my cloud instances rebooted for no apparent reason i was logged in at the time and there was a point where it just stopped responding to to ssh and then couple of minutes after that i was able to log in again and i had an email from the cloud service saying yeah the watchdog rebooted your machine so there didn't seem to be anything unusual in the logs i don't know what would have caused that i wouldn't think that's power failures happen in in the data center at least not without a whole lot of other help workings you know and also i had another instance in the same data strict data center that too did not did not have that happen so i dunno i have a ticket out to them asking hey is there anything in your logs that would indicate this the instance is capable of rebooting itself but there would be no reason that it would that i can see and it wasn't the instance on which i'll be running my storefront but given that i am going into running my storefront on on a cloud instance very soon i'd kinda like to know that they're going to be stable i think that that instance that rebooted had an uptime of more than a year at the time so we you know if it were something like the cloud provider decided while we've really need to reboot these instances for security patch on the kernel or something its conceivable that they could reboot instances to do that and even if it were something really critical that they might do that without telling me although that's really stretching the point we'll see what they what they say on the ticket but its quite possible that its just going to be while we don't know no real harm done especially because it wasn't a user facing instance but a little bit concerning because i could have other other things going on that would not like to be rebooted the the the the the okay its the third one the the like the silk screening king is a little heavier on this woman not the last that's you know there's a certain amount of variation in the manufacturing so as long as each one is within tolerance its good enough but you can see that there's variation i mean probably nobody but me was routinely looking at two of these boards next to each other so its unlikely you'd be noticed but i like to imagine that at some point in the future when i'm famous there are going to be people you know trying to figure out well which serial number range is your queller from was this before or after the switch to this manufacturer or that sort of thing like treating them as real collectibles okay its the fourth one there yeah i'm hoping that suck once i do this board stuffing i'm probably not to want to work on it more today but i'm hoping to be able to work at all of these sided up and ready to go within the week since we're only at monday now and that's on top of the up the other stuff the time doing in particular for the website its looking to me like within the week is also my timeline for cutting over the dns on the website and at least in the first stage i will still be keeping the bigcommerce account and when you go to buy something it will then take you to the cart page that is still hosted on the old bigcommerce account but i'd like to move beyond that at some point in the near future as well he could be as simple as just telling people if you want to buy something you're going to have to email me and then i'll send the way i send you an invoice through stripe but it would be better if i could get a real shopping cart working on on my own systems thing is i don't know how much effort i want to put into that because in the further future i would be moving to somewhere else most likely anyway so its do i get enough orders in the next couple of months i orders that i wouldn't get if i didn't build my own card to make it worth building my own card on the other hand i could find that i like hosting my own system so much that i want to keep doing that a longer time and in that case it would make sense to build my own card and i also have to figure out my relationship with stripe because stripe actually did the same thing to me one day i went to log in and couldn't ah and i have a pretty strong feeling that once a site has done that to me that's it means that i have to leave them however stripes customer support was a fair bit better than bigcommerce is they did some kind of special casing in their javascript that would allow me to log in so that means its less urgent to move away from them and it also means that i'd like to reward them for trying to help but it really may be wiser to treat that as well that means i have a longer timeline for moving away rather than that means i don't have to move away because its virtually virtually certain given that they're using all this whizzy javascript stuff that eventually there will be a change that is breaking and that they're not willing to do something about and i don't want to have my money going through a service that might one day just not work so it may be even if i continue using stripe in the short term that i should him also as soon as that things are stable on the new system i should also start looking for replacements because i could conceivably run more than one in parallel and it would certainly be better to get the stripe replacement up and running ah before such time as i might really be forced to leave stripe i was looking at square as a possible replacement for stripe they seemed to be very similar of course that means they may also be similar in terms of also using java javascript foolishness so it could be then i might go to create his square accountant find that my browser doesn't work with them either and to it would be better to know that before i commit to them but first things first i now have nearly all the content moved over i do have all the weblog entries moved over and those are the crown jewels but there are a couple of product pages on which i have to do some html cutting and pasting and then a lot of sort of behind the scenes stuff i have to check that all my search engine meta data looks the way it should and i guess deal with the rss generator that's a pretty small thing but its a thing that has to be done i don't want to cut over the dns until you know i'm really sure that everything is as it should be on the new site because i want the new site to be a clear improvement i don't want it to be and people go to it didn't say oh why did they break their side because that is what you know twenty twenty twenty twenty twenty one there are an awful lot of websites that have broken themselves just look at facebook and twitter and to everybody seems to think right now is a great time too redesign and make your website suck so if i am forced to redesign my website i don't want it to be one that is being redesigned to suck i want it to be one that just read redesigned and actually better one thing i have noticed even just in my own little testing well working on other things is that the new server is a whole lot faster than bigcommerce ever was because its not going through a cdn and its not loading hundreds of kilobytes of javascript on every page which is why it needed the cdn pretty much instant response and i mean i have a fairly fast internet connection but its not swedish fast so i figure it'll it should be a noticeable improvement in speed for for visitors and that counts for something on alright that's the last the resistors on the last of the boards so i think then i'm going to probably leave it at that for tonight's stream i don't know what i'll be doing by monday i'm hoping to actually have this project finished by then i might possibly do an extra stream in between but i'll probably also be doing some work off stream because i would like to not drag this dispatch out the way i did drag out the last assembly batch i did on stream i i will say thank you for tuning in glad to see a slightly higher or i'll actually significantly higher viewership this stream than than last i guess i guess you know board assembly is more interesting for people then then web design was but they both need to be done if you haven't already please remember me to follow on on twitch because i'm currently at forty eight and i'd like to make fifty and i hope you enjoyed and thanks for watching yeah hm yeah hm the
