Do not cite it or take it too seriously; if people do, then I will take it offline. i good afternoon so as you know i was awaiting this package from the pcb contractors in bangalore and it has arrived today a little sooner than i expected so i figured i'd unbox it on stream so here's the box and its kind of heavy because its pretty much a solid fiberglass in there and there's a sticker on here saying it was x rayed by dhl and i would like to find out whether these people have like actually separated the boards because i was expecting that but they didn't do it last time and they did the previous time i'm not sure i would pay extra to have them separated but it was you know its better if they're separated instead of being just panels not split also i would like to find out whether the silkscreen was printed properly because there have been problems with that before and i contacted customer service before placing this order and didn't really get didn't really get a very satisfactory reply they said oh well here are our specifications follow the specifications it should print ok but that was the case last time so we get some styrofoam sheets in here you don't see these very often anymore and another lion circuits key ring with what looks like a no usb only d thing on it i guess i yeah so i'm going to just try plugging it into my am a laptop here and see if it lights up it doesn't seem to want to deal with that later okay hello it glove equal love wherever that is i so here's a package of boards and they are separated so that's interesting i get some of the styrofoam i don't really like this type of styrofoam but whatever cause i can't reuse it and its messy and that kind of thing then you know whatever is available in india i guess is what they'll use there were also some irregularities with paying for this the thing is i i think this client circuits i'm sure they're nice people but they are relatively new at this game and they haven't worked out that you've got to be able to take customers' money or else its no good so their online store doesn't really handle the case of having more than one pcb design that you want to combine into a single order and so the way it works is you have to select shipping for just one of them and then write a note saying that you want to combine them and then this time they said oh well okay so he can pay for it and then we'll tell you if you need to pay more because we don't know what the shipping will be until we pack it up and send it off right and i said well that's not really an i need to know especially because their online store sent me to some really sketchy looking payment provider in the united arab emirates didn't wouldn't have thought that there was a lot of commerce between the u a e and india but that was where their payment processor was and the payment processor rejected my card and then moments later my cell phone rings notification from the card issuer saying we got this sketchy booking transaction from the u a e on your card is that really you so i have to text back why saying yesterday's read with me okay so here's the first board and i'm looking carefully at it for whether they left off of the silkscreen lines and it looks pretty good i don't see any missing lines try to hold that up there the real issue with the other boards was when there was a silk screen that went over the edge right that should be clipped off at the edge but instead what was happening was the entire silk-screened line that crossed the edge was removed and that is the problem because i mean you wouldn't think the silkscreen cosmetically is very important cello pitch but it is when i'm selling kits because my customers have to be able to see where to put everything in a test match pictures in the book and so on so in an effort to preempt that kind of issue and there are some missing lines here yeah i don't think they're a big issue but it looks to me like they removed the dotted lines around these these square pads on these great resistors that in the leapfrog they'd have a double double pad i dunno how many of you have actually tuned in now hour watching this later have actually built a leapfrog but there are resistors here where you have a choice of two pants to plug into and there should be a little dotted line around the whole thing and then the square pad is the one that you normally wanting a standard build until round one is for a hypothetical alternate build which i've never actually defined yet anyway so it looks to me like the pads when they are square the line comes close enough to it that the contractors didn't print that line not really a huge issue but not perfect so let's look at these other boards these are bored ones these are bored three know the support threes the support ones and there should be simple trees and care as well smart board to board threes same issue with the silk and i see that the silk is not perfectly aligned its close enough i think but this is i can't say its perfect perfect quality work here it is nice that they have milled the edges though that was something that was missing on my last order from these people and the milled edges are not really necessary but makes it feel nicer to handle the boards which is worth something i guess and as with the last order these sports have a little darker blue color as compared to the chinese manufacturer which i like the the the darker blue i think looks nicer okay board tos here yeah i'm not seeing any real serious issues with the silkscreen it is less perfect alignment and a little bit more smudgy than i consider really perfect but can still be read it readable i would certainly based on these boards that i'm looking at i think i can say these are acceptable okay now let's see this says twenty two twenty two there are numbers written on here which i guess i will have to confirm but twenty two twenty two twenty two it looks to me like they've shipped me forty four of each of the three designs which is not exactly what i ordered or paid for but in may partly compensate for some of the extra charges that i ended up having to pay for this cause there was that extra shipping and then the usual payment to dh dhl for a brokerage i noticed the dhl as usual miss declared the package but that's not really a huge issue because i mean its not subject to duty its only subject to hst and just looking here for a paper towel because i want to clean this workbench up a bit only subject to hst and the hst will get refunded back to me anyway so if its not really the right amount big deal i'm just going to go grab a paper towel back in the sec so i ordered forty each of two of the designs and thirty five of the other one because i have a little more stock of one of the board designs so i'm trying to equalize the totals and if its really true that i got forty four of each then i don't get that benefit but whatever its nice to have some extra the the way the extras come about is that they don't make they don't run their machines just from me right they run the circuit board making machines on a great big panel like often as big as a square meter or even more and they combine the orders from a number of small customers onto a single panel so if they make forty for me they're really making forty of one of my designs and forty of another design and forty of somebody else's design and so forth and so on and one of the sports come off the machine a lot of them are defective it might be like ten percent and testing them is expensive but that's part of the process that they're being paid to do so they have to test them and throw out the bad ones and only ship me the good ones and if i ordered forty and they make you know forty two of them and then three are defective and they've only got thirty nine then that's a problem they're going to have to run their machine again just to fill in that one remaining for me so what they do is they and the and its even worse because there are multiple customers so if even one customer can't get a full forty they're going to have to run the machine again so what they do is they figure out how many defective sports they're expecting and they run enough multiples of those full large panel that they can be pretty sure they're going to have enough for every customer but that means that usually most customers they will actually make a few more than that customer ordered that turned out good because read right there they they're trying to have a safety margin on it and make sure that even the worst served customers still gets as many as they ordered and so then why do they do with the extras now if it were a bigger a bigger deal if they were making thousands of them then they would negotiate as part of the contract well we will agree to supply you with the number you ordered plus minus ten percent and then you pay for the number you actually get and so on but with a small small deal like this they usually just throw the extra ones into the box and say hey you got a bonus that is how the the chinese also usually work so what it means is its pretty routine that i end up getting just a few more boards than i ordered okay so these boards i can count them offline and they go into inventory and that's great i'll be able to make more leapfrog for quite a while i have this prototyping prague which i made in my earlier stream in particular on monday i still have not adjusted and calibrated it but i think that the blue and pink panel with the purple knobs came out looking pretty nice on this that's great and maybe in some future era episode i'll actually hook it up and play with it a bit or one of the things that's on my on my shopping list is i need another era another your rack case that'll be more portable so i can use it for little demos here and to and maybe in person if the if the world ever opens up again i other than that i don't have a lot else to say today so i think i will say i hope you enjoyed and have a nice day hmm yeah hm
