on i'm kind of changing my plans as you may recall i was working on assembled module was the middle path one thirteen and the transistor radius are at the oh twelve and i counted out parts for two of these transistor mixers but i am missing some of the jack sockets i need to do this so i figured i could only with my current parts to one of them and i would set these aside after having countered out these parts and work on the other stuff that's on my list but then just this morning i got a an order from a retailer for ten of these oh eleven transistor mixers little bit surprising i don't really sell a whole lot of these so okay now i have the chance at some more and i had to do a careful calculation okay how many do i have in stock answer for and on i have these two that i was i having process getting ready to build them but i wasn't planning to build them quite so soon and i can't yet anyway because i'm missing these jack sockets and then how many more do i need what parts do i have what parts am i going to have to order so it turns out that if i can finish these two and build for more then that makes ten that i can fill my order ideally i would build a few more so that i'm not going to run out in my own stock for people who actually buy them direct from me and so and the the main limiting thing is actually the pants in addition to the ones you see here and the ones that are already committed i have six more on the shelf so i've put in an order for more parts and the jack sockets if i'm lucky should arrive monday and i can deal with them maybe even on-stream then and the other the other live eating factories the panels i've put in an order for twenty more of those but it'll it'll be a few weeks before i get them so my current plan is i'm going to guess as far as i can setting up six more of these and then the only thing remaining that i need will be the jack sockets which should come monday or tuesday at the latest and then i will just having time to get everything put together and ship it off within a reasonable lead time for my customer and that will bring my total stock to twelve and then i have sell ten so i have already on my online store cut the the amount of stock that its allowed to sell to two so there are still two more of these that i actually have in stock and could ship out but any others will have to wait until i get more and more panels and can set up some more of them so that is my agenda for today i'm going to get as far as i can with these with these with expanding the current batch of two up to be a batch of eight and i've i've added another color of pen here i'm going to use purple to record the the parts that i add to this checklist for for the six more assembled so just to try and keep everything organized jd first thing i'm going to do is put labels on these bins because i now have several different sets of bins in circulation and i just have to go through here and find maybe they're already sorted find six more of these ones that say or one one and i'll be adding those to the up to the bins now i saw just as i was logging into twitch to set up this stream i saw that one of my buddies the culture is streaming so if he still is by the time that i'm ready to sign off i may also attempt to raid although there's a good chance i mean its going to be pretty late for him in the philippines already at this time and even later by the time i'm done today so there's a good chance he will not be still still online when we get to that but something that i can try i've never actually done a raid on twitch and i don't really understand how it works or anything but that's how we learn i've no idea how many people are tuned in if anybody it seems there's no one else in i or c chat so i may be just talking to talking to the wind here but i can address you in the future if you are watching the recording now was basically the time that i want to do this so on i'm not spending a lotta time on building up obvious streamers at such and such time or anything i guess its friday night in europe right now so it'll only be the most hardcore of geeky people who have nothing better to do who are watching in real time and i don't even know what time it is in the philippines right now not sure exactly i think of most of east asia as being roughly the same time zone which would put this right now very early in the morning there we go that's six labels of the kind i want now i had after the site here these two that i've already worked on and one of them has a note in it saying its missing six jack sockets but in fact when i'm done here i'm with the current rounder for work i'm going to have five that are missing six jack sockets so rather than or actually cause i'll have seven so rather than making six more labels or notes i'm going to change change the note i have to say this will be the one that has just going to note the one that has the jack sockets and then all the others i will note do not so those go off to the side and now i can get everything in order here see if i can find enough space now not all six of these will necessarily be in view on the camera to are all conveniently located for me and then its the usual thing i can go down on my list and first thing is axial ceramic capacitors and pulling them out of the bin that is off on the side to the extent i can yeah on these are assembled too so i can use the ones that are in poorer shape and i probably had better do that so these ones that are in relatively good shape will put offices yeah the usual ones that i can use myself but to me don't look quite as nice reserve those for for my my assembled builds which is what i'm doing now you know the ones that are kind of banter whenever if this were a project that needed more of them then i would grab them out of those spot bins okay and the large large capacity the large film capacitors read legal ones i have the opportunity to empty bag here huh i had some next will be the electrolytic caps to the end four six hey ten twelve hello mrs baker alright i don't know exactly when you tuned in but the deal here is that i got an order from one of my retailers that they want ten of these transistor mixers and i don't have ten of them in stock and i don't have all the parts to make ten butter i ordered a bunch of parts and those should come in on monday or tuesday at the latest and so i'm going to make as much progress as i can today on getting the parts ready for that order so that i'll be able to build up the modules once i get the other parts this means a bit of a change in plan like the other modules i had in process are going to go on hold for a few days because those are things that i'm not actually going to run low on very soon so that was the schottky diodes right there and probably off screen or just knocked over a stack of bins and had to deal with that but there we go and machine screws and nylon washers i think i'm going to skip for the moment because those will come in later and i need power headers one of the gotchas with this particular module is that the page this is this is for a built yeah that's one reason i'm bumping it up in priority because i i make a little more money on the builds but also i need to do some more work on them so so i need to step lively to make sure everything is ready for when i get those those missing parts i it is interesting that the irctc client is not showing me anybody in in the channel even though i've now heard both from you pitch and from my and for mrs baker so that means the irish sea client at least right now today is not doing the one thing that i really wanted from it which was accurately tell me who's connected but i guess that's another thing just to keep on the watchful waiting lists of whether its really going to work or what here are the transistors which give the transistor mixer its name six of them huh i've commented before there's not a lot of difference between different general purpose transistors these ones in this this project are the five away dates and in the middle path i use the three nine or fours which are very very common sort of workhorse ted transistor there are basically differences in the oh and now it says you both joined no i don't understand how it determines that as i've said it it seems that twitches chance he's kind of like i r c internally but not really exactly anyway the the five away dates have a higher gain which generally makes them sorta better behaved you might call them higher quality on the other hand they are more sensitive to reverse voltage in the middle path that's an issue because the the sine shaper in there really needs to put some reverse voltage against those transistors and so the three nine forest which are a little more rugged it works better for that five away dates are actually not made anymore at least not in exactly this packaging which is the kind of package i wanted so i went and bought when they when it was announced that they would stop stop selling them in this form i i did a lifetime by father i guess it was a little over one or two thousand dollars worth which should be a number of years worth of of my usage and influence i've not even dug into the the box that came in from the lifetime buy i'm still working on one of these smaller little bags from before that so i'm not going to run out too terribly soon but it was sort of a reminder of mortality right then nothing's going to last forever and at some point before i if if i'm still in business and still think that i'm gonna want to sell these transistor mixtures by the time that i leave i finish though so that big box then i'm going to have to look for an alternative okay five channel resisters two of them in each module the the the two point seven k is next one of those in each the the the next is four points seventeen and that's another one where i only need one per module the the the the nexus five nine k which will be in the same pin here should be five point nine k okay i'm not seeing it and that means its probably ok here we go no oh should have seen these four point okay here are the five point nines i should have seen i had these four point seven sutter would be good to use at this point but i'm not going to go through and pull out all those ones i just cut the thing is i i've mentioned this before but i i want to use the ones that are just bag loose in my own builds because they're a little less nice for the customers who buy buy kit but i guess it all evens out eventually i see that the next item on my list is twelve k and i think those are similar story so i'm probably going to put them both on the same chunk of tape yeah its no surprise that the parts that go in the transistor mixer or in that situation because i think what happened was i when i was developing the transistor mixer i put in an order once i hid determined what parts i needed for it i put in an order for all those parts and that was the day that i didn't look carefully or know what i was getting regarding the ugh regarding the packaging so all the parts that i ordered specifically for the transistor mixer didn't already have on hand ended up being being the bulk pack and then since the transistor mixer doesn't sell a whole lot of assembled modules i only very gradually working my way through those bags apart fortunately i mean these these kinds of parts don't really go bad if its a few decades old and its the right spec you're ok to use them so these are five point nine k and twelve k alright next is twenty two alarms twenty four twenty seven a whole bunch of different sizes and different values in that same range there here's the twenty trees huh i'm just trying to find the end go okay i need five at least for everyday wow two three four five six huh color code for these is red red black red brown that's two two zero and then two more zeroes and then the final brown is for one percent tolerance the next is forty seven okay the and i need for these for each the the the the and okay now for the panel part i am certain angel run low of these but i'm pretty sure i have enough for this current batch here the part of the thing with potential amateurs is there are all these options that apply to them like exactly how long is the shaft and these are the are the connections at right angles to the shafter should they go they go in line with it and are we talking about a knurled shaft or they don't call them gmt but one could certainly call that kind of rebooted i or is it like d shaped or is it smooth like this one at least once and then you also have the issue of taper that when you set the when you when you turn the knob to the middle of the year the range is that really electrically the middle the thing is if you've got something like a volume control you don't actually want it to be linear you don't want fifty percent on the knob to be fifty per cent of the year electrical power because that's not how people's ears work we perceive audio volume and actually most human senses are logarithmic which basically means they go by multiplication instead of addition and if you double the power that means a three decibel increase it doesn't mean it doesn't mean it sounds twice as loud so like the difference between one and ten is the same as the difference between ten and one hundred these particular parts here are designed to take that into account because they are basically being used as volume controls on the mixer so you don't gift you don't get a linear relationship between the opposition and the the power output you get this technically exponential but they call it logarithmic which is really the opposite ah and they also call it audio taper and then to further confuse things its not actually really easy to manufacture it with a true logarithmic or exponential taper so they they kind of approximate that with what is easy to manufacture and the listener's senses are approximate enough that that doesn't really matter that its close enough so that's one of the things that that screws people up when they tried to try to buy it comes like this the other thing that's a huge issue is that okay you go through the datasheet and the data sheet for these parts will actually be a single data sheet that covers like hundreds of different styles and there'll be a sort of a secret decoder of this not very secret but there'll be a decoder at the start of how do you construct the part number for exactly the part you want based on the based on the options he wants so these ones here are picchu sixty p dash d one b s three ca one hundred k so picchu sixties that's generally the sort of part p means its got the right angle connections d one b i'm not sure what that is i think it has to do with like with how how tightly sealed it is you pay more if its going to be more resistant to dust b s three describes that its got a pushing and the shaft is a certain length and style see i think is also part of that he means its audiotape or one hundred k means its one hundred kill on track resistance but if you sit down and figure out the part number for the part you want then you will go to mouser or whatever and say i want such and such part and they say well its not in stock we can order it for you thirty seven weeks lead time because they if you place the order for that then they will send the order to the manufacturer and the manufacturer will actually sit down and manufacture those parts to the specifications or semi custom made so if you want if your end they'll also have a minimum order as well as that thirty seven a week lead time so if you want to like be able to specify a part and actually be able to find it on the shelf you have to go looking for well what are the common sets of options what what do the distributors actually stock that's one of the things that keeps it to keeps it real so to speak for the a small time manufacturer that you you can look at the data sheet and decide what you want and but you have to look at the distributors stock also to figure out what you can actually have because there will be only a few out of those hundreds of different part numbers that they actually routinely stock because those are the ones that are sort of semi standard this is another thing that really screws up the people who buy or try to buy pcb and panel because it may not be clearly described in the instructions that come with the pcb and panel what kind of part you need and then even once you know what kind you need you can have an interesting time trying to source it i guess one solution is to just to build your business big enough that you can afford to set the terms i mean if i were buying ten thousand parts or probably even just one thousand of them at a time then i wouldn't need to deal with the distributor i would be dealing directly with the factory but i'd still have to wait thirty seven weeks so i'm not sure its exactly thirty seven weeks but its you know some large number like that something that translates to months so it becomes necessary to really plan ahead carefully and that would have been true even before the dreaded rona all the more so now i'm currently waiting for the the shipment of knobs from taiwan which is on something like six months i guess it was four month lead time when i placed the order earlier in january and i'm just hoping that my stock will hold out until laugh hello extra more as i mentioned twitch i rc doesn't really seem to reliably tell me who's connecting when so on top of all the other reasons i mean not necessarily great people promptly when they tune in but i'm still trying to do that especially with an unscheduled stream like this one alright now i'm i have run out of those little spring washers so i'm going to have to dig some out of another another bin ah actually let's see if i have any spare right here on the bench doesn't look like it now oh actually yes i have a couple of spare entire parts so i think i can maybe i already did that there's the joke about odd a lawyer who which kind is this there's a joke about a lawyer who you know he's part of a long line of distinguished lawyers and they've had they've had their offices in the same place for years and years and years and okay there's one his father before him and grandfather before that and then there's a sprig stone doorstep going into the office and over these many many years they all have the traffic of people walking in and out of the office has gradually worn down dip in the surface of the stone and it needs to be replaced right so he gets a stonemason to come in and take a look at it and give them an estimate on how much it'll cost to replace that doorstep and he doesn't like it the estimate its going to be a lot more money than he really wants to spend so he says okay look instead of actually putting in a new stone how about you just flip the stone over ok i mean its just a rectangular block so we could get another hundred years of use out of it if we just flip it over and so stonemason goes to work and just because he's blocking the front door of the office they can't get any business done in sign so its you know hours and hours of banging and chiseling away out there towards the end of the day there's a knock on the door lawyer answers it and there's the stonemason with a cheeky grin on his face and he says your grandfather thought of that fifty years ago and that's a running joke in my family and its sort of what came up there with that bit of hardware and i may have the same issue with the sam lock washers so we'll see yeah yeah its worse with the lock washers okay i need five more lock washers it looks like so i'm going to have to dig those out of another bag let's see where can i pool lock washers from but they won't be missed too soon laughs alright these era of one or the other bins have very similar parts here now to some extent this is only postponing the problem but usually especially when i put in a large order there'll be like one or two extra hardware sets so over time i expect any deficit to want to disappear there we go and good for these then in the far future if i find that there's a really significant deficit i can like actually buy more hardware sets because these items are available individually although its only practical to to get them that way if you're buying like one thousand at a time you don't really want to go to war go to a hardware supplier and try to buy one or ten you end up paying way more for them that way but whatever you may think of the industrial revolution this idea of interchangeable parts is kind of nice for that if i say i need and not there are hundreds of kinds but there are not millions of kinds and it is possible for me to get a description of the kind of not i want and then going by it and be pretty sure of actually getting one that will fit that's kind of nice alright put this back on the shelf then come back and screw all those things in discussing here hi alright so next screw all these enough to hold i mean i will just have to unscrew them in the fairly near future but having them screwed together so the hardware stays in place is useful it saves having to dig through the bins for it later that was off alright so next its going to be horizontal single turn trimmers i'm probably getting close to the point these probably getting close to the point where i need to split this being a trimmer pots into more than one bit because its not really the most convenient having to dig through it every time but now what now this is tied in a way i don't think i would have done so that may mean that i have more in here another bank i want to open first yes let's open those first i don't know how i would split that bit maybe single turn vs multi turn cause i do use a whole lot of multi-terrain hello commander root as i said at the start of the stream i'm basically changing my plan here because ah i had set aside the transistor mixers to work on later because i didn't have all the parts but then i got on i got an order that came in for ten assembled i ten assembled transistor mixers i don't have all that in stock and i don't have even all the parts for it although i'm close so i'm bustling around here getting everything as ready as i can and i've also already put in the order for missing parts so that i hope that i will get the remaining parts on monday or maybe tuesday and then i can just quickly and sort of crunch mode get those ten assembled and ship them off to the to the customer transistor mixers are i really wanted to have a mixer in my line so that i could be that much closer to having a complete line but they haven't been hugely popular as modules because generally people think that utility modules are not sexy even though they are pretty much absolutely necessary and the best modular players the ones who make the best music and do it on the strength of having good utility modules so i guess you could say that's more server an advanced type of module even if or when people think of what's an advanced module they think of the the really complicated ones yeah here's another chance to use up some luck use of some of the bulk pack resisters three six nine twelve i dunno if maybe i should have a ritual for when i finish one of these bags of inventory on the whiskey tribe channel anytime they they empty a bottle which is not all that often because they you know they try small amounts of many different whiskeys instead of drinking the same ones every time but every time they empty a bottle they hold the empty bottle upside down and hum its raining men and there has never been an explanation as far as i know of why they chose that particular song for this ritual but maybe i should have something like that for the bags resistors cause it is kind of a celebration as it means that i've had enough business to actually use up potentially a significant number if a given item and i especially am going to want to celebrate when i empty one of these bulk bulk packs tiny resistor bags like these three thirty k m's i dunno what's the best song to use for that i mean i guess i could hum that song that is that i used for the filler animation cause that's one that i wrote and won't raise any copyright issues not exactly the most catchy humble bolton but that may be ok page says its amazing ah i don't know which part is amazing the its raining men ritual aura any of the things has said about them about resist your bags the whiskey ritual yeah well they're interesting people on that channel it has inspired me to drink more whisky which i don't know if its really a good thing but there we go actually i've been trying to cultivate a taste for rum i think that romney is going to be the next big hipster thing after whiskey and i don't know if having been on the ground floor will help at all but sounds amazing thank you okay that's all the items on the main list here but i'm also going to count out a few other items yes i'm a rum drink or what kind do you like pitch i think one of my favorites so far is havana club seven which is pretty easy to come by right here although in the states you can only get the the puerto rican one pcb panel knobs mrs baker likes gin better page says my partner's trinidadian and her deck converted me likes eldorado fifteen year yeah i have not tried the fifteen year i have tried the twelve and i quite like it and i actually i also like the younger el dorado rums more for mixing than four era for other than for sipping i better make some progress here okay pcbs and panels pc bs cut the wounds and morphy wants okay well from trinidad of course that's also where angostura bitters comes from and i really like that knobs my alcohol cabins is just rubbing gene actually like the true hipster i am as for gin and i quite like the tanqueray rang pour gin which is made with rangpur limes its supposed to be like an anglo indian style of gin and that i mean one could just sip it straight over its also good for whatever mixed gin drinks you know i just grabbed these blue ones but i don't want to these are the one assemble modules they get great ones and i'm going to live dangerously and not test these because i won't if they're bad i will know as soon as they suck as soon as i tried to assemble them although i do have to make sure there is actually screw in there as well at all i'm still on the mainland chinese on grey knobs because i bought a big batch of those and its taking a while to work through but i do have to keep an eye on the numbers especially now that the taiwanese manufacturer has a long lead time that before i run out of these i have to place another order and then i'm probably going to go through our probably going to have to go through the ah the whole thing of having a grade that doesn't quite match the older grey and so on mrs baker says that sounds good presumably the gin sweden has an award winning gin that has cardamom in it way better neat than anything else i've tried other than amarilla i have had am ruler but i didn't i don't really remember it very well there was a group of a group of my friends from from victoria who called themselves the edifying fellowship of the book and we used to have a whole big thing of trying unusual and interesting liqueurs and liquors and amarilla was one that we tried as i recall it was bait it basically just tasted like caramel although i to be honest i think by the time we got to that one i'd consumed so much other stuff that ah i may not have been in good shape too to remember it so yeah i think my other favorite rum at the moment is florida kenya the older ones though i think i had i forget what i had most recently i guess it was the florida canyon fifteen and that was quite nice that had like a fair bit of nuttiness to it so like macadamia nuts in particular but part of the fun thing with rum is its very diverse there all kinds of things that really in any other spirit would be called a different spirit of late into the category of ram that's true of whiskey too to some extent but even more so i think with the room and of course you get the whole pirate association which is always cool scotch with oysters page says was a unique alcohol experience for me yeah i would like to try i want to try oysters with oyster stout that will be fun alright so normally i wouldn't put these in the bin until i have tested them don't really want to take time out to test them right now i guess i'm just going to put them in the tray in the bin as a way of remembering that they're not really fully tested or quality control yet although i think at some point in the past i did tests their whole batch because i wanted to know how loudly i should complain to nature complaint didn't really do much good good if i wait a year or two or two until i'm actually ready to use them before complaining then of course they lose they lose track of it and there's no hope of getting satisfaction knobs okay i think that is basically about as much progress as i can make on these for today what's the defect rate on these interesting question that particular batch there i think the defect rate was about two per cent the last batch that i got from that manufacturer was a batch of blue knobs and the defect rate overall for that was i think about six percent which is way too high and there were a couple of trays that if you looked at just that trade would be well over ten percent now i have not won since switching to the taiwan the manufacturer i have not seen a defective one yet ah so i'm hoping that defect rate for that is going to be very much lower and but it kind of remains to be seen i e once bitten twice shy i'm going to be doing one hundred percent testing on them for a long time because of course even though its its a lot of annoying work its much better to to detect the the problems myself soon rather than waiting and having the customers be the quality control i am nearly ready to to log out here but i want to see if my buddy is is still streaming because if so we can attempt to do the raid thing and that means having to go through no looks like there's no no raid for us so in that case i think i'm going to just say thanks for watching and hope you enjoyed and have a nice day and then i will go to the filler animation briefly and log off and buy i yeah hm i
